Charming antique vermeil photo locket, crafted from gold-gilt silver and fitted with a suspension ring allowing it to be worn as a pendant.
This lovely round locket features delicate engraved decoration. Both sides are embellished with finely engraved floral and foliate motifs, combined with an elegant pattern of fine wavy and linear engraving.
One side features a blank central cartouche, originally suitable for engraving initials or a monogram.
The locket opens to reveal two compartments designed to hold small photographs, complete with their interior frames. The antique blue backing remains in place.
The suspension ring bears a French weevil hallmark, confirming the silver. As the silver is gilded, this photo locket is made of vermeil (gold-gilt silver).
Based on its decoration, construction and opening mechanism, this lovely locket can be dated to the late 19th or very early 20th century, circa 1890-1910.
