The repoussé work is crisp and well-defined: the laurel wreath runs in a continuous band around the lid, cinched top and bottom by a finely modeled double-knotted ribbon. The central cartouche, polished and gently domed, was deliberately left plain by the original maker. Inside, vermeil gilding covers the entire cavity and underside of the lid, with a hallmark visible on the inner rim of the lid, near the hinge.
