🏛️ Les Chevaux de Marly: An emblematic work of French art
Les Chevaux de Marly is a masterpiece of French sculpture from the XVIIIᵉ century. Commissioned in 1739 by Louis XV, these white marble statues, depicting spirited horses subdued by grooms, were intended to adorn the entrance to the Château de Marly, a royal residence west of Paris. They embody the power, freedom and movement characteristic of Rocaille art of the period.
🔹 A legacy in the Louvre :
After the French Revolution, these monumental sculptures were transferred to the Champs-Élysées entrance, where they remained until 1984 before being moved to the Louvre Museum for preservation. Their dynamism and fine detail continue to fascinate art and history lovers.
