A striking 19th-century French staircase finial, or bobèche d’escalier, turned and carved from solid wood, dating from the Napoleon III period (circa 1880).
Its elegant black lacquered finish and large, sculptural form make it an exceptional decorative accent — once crowning a grand staircase, now a statement object in its own right.
The piece displays the refined curves typical of the Second Empire style, blending neoclassical balance with decorative richness. Though the back is not carved (as originally mounted against a banister post), its front features beautifully symmetrical fluting and smooth patina.
Perfect as a standalone art object, on a console, or as part of an architectural collection.
